Sci-fi writer interview: computing power should explore consciousness, not conquest
thesephist · x · 2026-10-28
Linus Lee shares a thoughtful interview excerpt he keeps returning to. Interviewee Ken pushes back on the far-future sci-fi trope of godlike computing machines devoted to militaristic conquest — calling it sad and unrealistic. Most of the planet's computing power today (human brains) isn't spent destroying enemies but on contemplative questions: becoming better people, loving friends, why we exist. He'd love to see more engagement with consciousness, drawing on Hinduism, Daoism, esoteric philosophy, and meditation as part of human flourishing.
