RTX 3080 Tensor Core unlock claims 80-87% TFLOPS boost, RTX 50 series blocked
Revolutionalredstone · reddit · 2026-10-28
A Reddit user claims to have unlocked near RTX A5000-level performance from a consumer GeForce RTX 3080, arguing NVIDIA artificially caps Tensor Cores on consumer cards despite identical silicon. Measured gains: FP16/FP32 accumulation 60.54→109.39 TFLOPS (+80.7%), BF16/FP32 60.57→113.55 TFLOPS (+87.5%), TF32 30.97→57.78 TFLOPS (+86.6%). The unlock adds no VRAM and took about an hour with an eGPU setup; RTX 50 series remains uncracked due to a new RISC-V CPU verifying boot hashes.
