Ex-DeepMind researcher Geoffrey Irving pushs back on Anthropic's claim AI safety is solved
geoffreyirving · x · 2026-10-28
Former DeepMind safety researcher Geoffrey Irving shared a screenshot of Anthropic's "Our assessment" page, where Pillar 1 claims "The technical problems of AI safety are solved," citing constitutional alignment, interpretability audits, misuse safeguards, and external red-teaming (150+ hours against Claude Opus 5.5 with no universal jailbreak found).
Irving flatly rejected the claim: "No, Anthropic, the technical problems of AI safety are not solved." He followed up by tagging Anthropic researcher Ethan Perez with "Please fix this," signaling substantive disagreement with the company's official safety self-assessment.
