Ghostty author exposes rival terminal's benchmark: it discards ~99% of input unparsed
seatedro · x · 2026-10-28
Ghostty author Mitchell Hashimoto dug into Velocity terminal's source after its claimed throughput wins and found the read loop overwrites a 64 KiB ring per tick, discarding older data unparsed. At the claimed rates, 6.6MB arrives per 60Hz tick while only 64KiB gets parsed — reading 100% of the data but parsing 1%. Additional issues include a tiny fixed scrollback, no grapheme clustering, and dropped OSC 8 URIs, so the benchmark number reflects data-dropping, not real terminal emulation.
