GPU rental prices keep rising largely because token demand is exploding: per a16z's OpenRouter data, weekly token volume grew 27x from 6T (Nov 2025) to 165T. Open-weight models' share of tokens processed rose from 28% to 72%, though their spend share (25%) remains far lower, reflecting much cheaper pricing than closed models.
