CellTrack-Bench tests VLMs on microscopic cell tracking, exposing reasoning gaps
biohub · hf · 2026-10-28
Biohub researchers release CellTrack-Bench, a benchmark evaluating vision-language models on microscopic cell tracking against specialized algorithms. Cell tracking resembles multi-object tracking but with nearly identical objects that divide and rapidly change morphology, demanding spatiotemporal awareness. Across diverse imaging modalities, results reveal significant reasoning gaps between general-purpose VLMs and specialized solutions, questioning LLM generalization on specialized scientific domains.
