Three approaches to using one model to help build another that makes decisions

Turing Post breaks down three approaches to using one model to help build another that makes decisions:
- Strands Decider: models help produce and check training data. Qwen3.5-2B's language head is replaced with a pointer head scoring supplied options; a small Qwen generates questions, a larger Qwen checks them, Gemma supplies teacher signals.
- SII-Decision: a Qwen reasons through questions, then learns to approximate answer probabilities without re-running the reasoning. Some benefit transfers to classification, much less to hard multi-step tasks.
- Distil: a coding agent fixes the teacher's labeling mistakes — e.g. Nemotron treating one warning sign as several independent confirmations. The agent clarifies instructions and regenerates data, closing the loop from errors back to source data.
