Engineer's lament: writing code is easy, managing humans and agents burns you out
dotey · x · 2026-10-28
A developer recalls thinking managing people would free him from coding after graduation — only to realize coding is now the easiest part. Juggling humans and agents feels like high-concurrency work where his own "threads and bandwidth" run out. dotey adds a sharp question: people managers are evaluated on developing talent, so what's the equivalent metric for an agent manager? Good ones should build knowledge bases and Skills and refine AGENTS.md so agents understand projects and execute tasks far more efficiently.
