AI agent swarm formalizes 15,000-page CFSG proof in 24 days, ~40M lines of Lean
rickasaurus · x · 2026-10-28
Axiom released a complete Lean formalization of the Classification of Finite Simple Groups — the longest proof in mathematics (15,000 pages, 500+ papers, 100 authors) — produced as 38-40 million lines of Lean by swarms of dozens of AI agents over 24 days, steered by mathematicians. Earlier this year, getting AxiomProver to write a correct 10,000-line proof took weeks; this project was 4,000x that size. Axiom credits the jump to rebuilding three layers at once: models, harness, and infrastructure. The effort also surfaced 100 substantive fixes to the literature, hailed as a milestone for verifiable AI — formal math now scaling like software.
