Swiss lab Giotto launches sovereign models Alto and Solo, touting top benchmark scores

Swiss lab Giotto announced two "European sovereign AI models":
- Giotto Alto: flagship reasoning model, free and available on the App Store and Google Play, hosted on European cloud infrastructure to keep data in Europe. Self-reported benchmarks claim parity with OpenAI/Anthropic/Google models on AIME 2026 and Math-500 (HLE 52.0%).
- Giotto Solo: runs on a single GPU for organizations deploying on their own infrastructure; self-reported AIME 2026 96.6% and HLE 37.5%, ahead of Gemma 4 31B and GPT-OSS-120B.
The pitch is enabling Europe to run advanced AI on its own terms. Benchmark numbers are vendor-claimed and not independently verified.
