figwig data format generalizes bigwig to n-dimensional arrays for genomics
jmschreiber91 · x · 2026-10-28
The author released figwig, a genomics data format that generalizes bigwig to n-dimensional arrays, so it can efficiently store large sets of tracks, single-cell experiments, fiber-seq, and even Hi-C and scHi-C experiments.
- Merging multiple experiments into one data structure keeps figwig files very small while making reads and writes extremely fast.
- The attached figure shows chunked reads into a DataLoader-like object: 8192 windows of 2048 for smaller datasets, or 2048 windows of 1024 for larger ones.
- It is the latest drop in the author's week of releases, with a link to the code/repo.
