figwig: new genomics format generalizes bigWig to N-dimensional arrays
jmschreiber91 · x · 2026-10-28
A new open-source format and library, figwig (MIT), generalizes bigWig to n-dimensional arrays for efficiently storing huge sets of genomic tracks, single-cell experiments, fiber-seq, and even Hi-C/scHi-C data. It ships a fast, multithreaded reader/writer between bigWig/figwig files and numpy, supports one-call window reads across any subset of tracks into (windows, tracks, width) tensors, and targets the bottleneck of loading training signal for genomics models.
