AI safety researcher Stephen Casper announced that the Technical AI Governance Research (TAIGR) Lab, co-led with Anka Reuel, is now live at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center.
- Mission: study how AI systems behave and affect the world, investigate successes and failures, and build evaluation tools for AI governance — aiming for a feedback loop between evaluations, real-world use, and incidents.
- Flagship report: "A Pre-mortem on The First Major AI-Enabled Terrorism Event," offering 9 predictions and 2 concrete scenarios based on three years of frontier-model misuse precedents.
- Notable work: AI Observatory findings covered by MIT Technology Review and The Washington Post — applying Anthropic's method to usage data would filter out 48% of conversations.
- Recruiting: PhD and Master's applications are due in early December.
