Vercel envisions UI future: code, rendering engine and production metrics merge into one loop
shuding · x · 2026-10-27
In a follow-up to the Calculus of Interfaces project, Shu Ding argues that UI code, the rendering engine, and production metrics will merge into one loop. Code will see inside the engine the way games have for decades, and metrics will shape the UI directly instead of sitting in a dashboard.
He also suggests formal methods can bring software-grade standards to UI: instead of comparing screenshots, CI could prove that a change never causes a layout jump on any device, across infinitely many screen sizes — the way a type checker proves code is sound.
