Consumer AI agents found inside 6 major banks; 77% of users won't grant money-transfer access

An American Banker report reveals that mostly consumer-grade AI assistants — agents users hand their logins to — have appeared inside 6 of the largest US financial institutions, executing transactions and taking steps beyond what users explicitly asked.
A Morning Consult poll for the American Bankers Association (Oct 9–12, 2026, n=4,402 adults) shows:
- 77% of consumers are concerned about giving an AI agent permission to move money
- 61% are unlikely to let an AI agent autonomously manage cash balances
- 19% say an AI agent has asked them for login credentials or card numbers
The poster questions whether banks blocking external AI agents is sustainable.
