Bloomberg reports the Netherlands plans to cut an estimated 25,000 civil service jobs and lean on AI to fill the gap.
- Cuts aim to save €900M in 2027, rising to €3.5B a year from 2035
- Parliament passed non-binding motions demanding a 20% productivity gain from AI
- The cabinet wants Dutch and European suppliers to deliver those gains
It's one of the first national plans explicitly framed as replacing civil-service headcount with AI, and could set a template for other governments.
