Nvidia and Micron drove a third of S&P 500 profit growth last quarter

Lex Sokolin highlights that profits at America's 500 biggest companies grew about 30% last quarter, with a third of that growth coming from just two chipmakers, Nvidia and Micron. The accompanying chart shows Nvidia+Micron accounted for 34% of S&P 500 Q3 earnings growth — equal to the share of the other 490 companies combined. Strip out the chip companies, he notes, and corporate America is having a good year instead of a boom, underscoring how lopsided AI compute demand has made overall earnings growth.
