Gowers: OpenAI's math drop includes Kakeya proof; AGMAI urges release of Yang-Mills outputs

Timothy Gowers relays that OpenAI's recent mathematical results drop contains a refutation of ETH, a proof of "local smoothing" implying the full Kakeya conjecture, and a proof of the existence of pure Yang-Mills theory.
The Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (AGMAI) at the Institute for Advanced Study publicly calls on OpenAI to immediately release the natural-language and Lean outputs behind its announced existence proofs for Yang-Mills theory, quantum chromodynamics, and a completion of the Standard Model. AGMAI notes Yang-Mills existence is a Millennium Prize problem, and argues that since OpenAI said release was delayed only until Lean formalization was complete — now done — there is no scientific reason to withhold the materials further. A companion document argues against AI labs designating specific mathematicians for output releases, insisting understanding should develop organically and community-led.
