PKU paper redesigns video storage: decoupled frames cut random-access decode cost
PKU · hf · 2026-10-27
A PKU team released "Rethinking Video Storage for AI Training: Breaking Cross-Frame Dependencies for Efficient Random Access". The paper tackles the high decode overhead when randomly sampling video frames during AI training. The key idea is dependency-decoupled encoding that breaks cross-frame dependencies so reconstruction error per target frame is bounded, co-designed with sparse decoding, together sharply reducing video decode overhead for random training-time sampling—directly relevant to large-scale video pretraining data pipelines.
