Per a WSJ scoop, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan held eleventh-hour weekend talks with bank executives after some lenders got cold feet on committing $40B for the largest AI debt deal ever—funding Anthropic's TPU purchases. Broadcom also agreed to higher interest rates to sweeten the deal.
Per the screenshots: the deal, led by Bank of America, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley, was announced late Monday after Anthropic's IPO filing; with a Blackstone-financed chunk, total commitments reached $63B. Banks also received guarantees protecting them if Anthropic defaults. Broadcom's triple role—supplier, guarantor, negotiator—underscores how intertwined big AI bets have become.
