Open-source Charakuru turns one anime illustration into a rigged 3D avatar in minutes
aftahi_ai · x · 2026-10-27
Charakuru, an open-source kit by Japanese developer nanocle (@Dstudioai, 1k GitHub stars), turns a single character illustration into a 3D model / VRM avatar in minutes — work that reportedly used to take an experienced 3D artist a month. It chains Tripo P2 (image-to-3D), ChatGPT-assisted orchestration, and Blender, handling even hair rigging (one of the fiddliest parts) and supporting MToon shading. The workflow is designed to be shared with AI agents. Free and open source, with multilingual docs and a dedicated Tripo Discord category plus community contests.
