AI Hasn't Devoured Software Engineering, Argues Researcher: It's Never Been Harder or More Exciting
lateinteraction · x · 2026-10-27
The author pushes back against the popular claim that "AI has come for math the way it came for software engineering": interesting software engineering problems are not fewer or lesser now than ever — software development has arguably never been harder or more exciting.
In a follow-up, he adds that, at a very factual level, public frontier AI is simply not that smart or reliable yet, and he doubts the next generation will be fundamentally different — a view he suspects describes more practitioners' daily experience than they publicly admit.
