Apple open-sources Private Cloud Compute components, giving researchers a real attack surface
jedisct1 · x · 2026-10-27
Apple has open-sourced core Private Cloud Compute (PCC) components on GitHub — the trust foundation for Apple Intelligence's cloud inference. The repo (1.3k stars) includes CloudAttestation, Thimble, CloudBoard, srdtools, and PrivateCloudResearchTools.
The post argues this is a genuine attack surface, not a marketing PDF:
- CloudAttestation's X509Policy was previously bitten by a revocation issue, fixed in 26.4
- Apple Security Bounty covers breaks of PCC guarantees
- A research/audit guide is available
PCC is Apple's verifiable-privacy architecture for cloud AI, and open-sourcing lets security researchers directly test its device-class trust claims.
