Shopify design lead on AI-native design: designers are becoming editors
ycombinator · x · 2026-10-27
On YC's Design Review, Shopify product design studio lead Marvin Schwaibold (previously co-founder of studio Molly, working with Apple and Google) shows how AI reshaped his process: using Figma as a scratchpad and building working prototypes directly with tools like Codex. Work that once took a team of designers and engineers many iterations, he can now produce and ship solo. His thesis: designers are becoming editors and more full-stack, and taste and judgment matter more than ever when tools can build almost anything.
