Open-source Toska turns Krita into an agentic AI painter for under $7/month
yawk-ra · reddit · 2026-10-27
Developer yawk-ra released Toska, an open-source fork of Krita with an AI painter inside: you chat in a side panel and the agent paints stroke by stroke using Krita's own brush engine on undoable layers.
Key points:
- Decision Models: after every pass, a vision model scores 'better or worse' as a probability, letting the agent undo mistakes and choose textures, brushes and tools
- Author's setup: GPT-6-Luna Decisions (vision) + DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash (cheap, vision), costing just $2.83 + $3.82 this month; OpenRouter or Perplexity's open-source pplx-decider-v1.2 also work
- Built on Agent Pi's TypeScript SDK with QT; tool-limited agent, no code execution, only mounted files
- Demo: painting Dostoevsky awaiting execution in 1849 from a Codex-generated goal image, doing underpainting then refinement and self-added falling snow
Signed Mac dmg available now; Windows/Linux builds coming this week. Repo: github.com/yak1234/toska
