ParaStudent: a fine-tuned student simulator that grades AI tutors by how learners act on feedback

At EMNLP 2026 main conference, Berkeley researchers present ParaStudent, a fine-tuned student simulator that revises code like a real learner. It lets teams evaluate interactive assistants such as AI tutors by how simulated students take up their feedback before deployment. Key insight: what a user simulator must get right is how partially users act on advice—real learners don't follow it fully. Poster in Hall H, Sunday 16:00–17:30.
