OpenAI models produce Lean-verified existence proofs for QCD and Yang–Mills
danintheory · x · 2026-10-27
OpenAI researcher danintheory announces that their models produced mathematically rigorous existence proofs for interacting quantum field theories with gauge fields and fermions in four dimensions, including Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and a unified completion of the Standard Model.
- As a subproblem, the work includes a proof of pure Yang–Mills existence, part of the Clay Millennium Prize problem
- All proofs are formally verified in Lean
- Pipeline: the models first generated a natural-language proof of Yang–Mills existence, then QCD; after formalization, David Gross will lead a working group with Michael Douglas, Arthur Jaffe, Igor Klebanov, and Nikita Nekrasov to vet and communicate the results
