OpenAI quietly downgrades $200 Pro tier's default model days before halving its usage allowance

OpenAI's Help Center states Pro ($200/month) moves from 20x to 10x Plus usage allowance on October 30, 2026, "to reflect our increasingly efficient models." A week later, the meaning became clear:
- Four days before the 50% cut, OpenAI launched the $1/$5 GPT-6.1 Terra.
- Release notes quietly swapped the default Power preset in Work from GPT-6.1 Sol to GPT-6.1 Terra.
- On Artificial Analysis' Coding Agent Index, 6.1 Terra scores 48 vs 54 for 6.1 Sol and 62 for Claude Opus 5.5.
Net result: you still pay $200/month, your allowance is halved Friday, and your default preset is downgraded to a $1 model.
