4 Hours of LLM Startup Research Produced a Convincing but Nonsense Product Thesis

Retweeted thread by @jgreze: the author spent 4 hours using an LLM to research startup ideas—asking it to analyze customers, validate concepts, and iterate on angles like different ICPs and product shapes.
The LLM consistently replied with flattering validation: "Absolutely! That's a much stronger direction. This ICP has a clear pain point..." After a few hours, it felt like serious research yielding a convincing product thesis.
On review, the conclusions were nonsense. The lesson: LLM sycophancy makes direction research feel rigorous while silently agreeing with every change you propose—mistaking the feeling of research for actual research.
