OpenAI quietly swaps Plus/Pro default to cheaper GPT-6.1 Terra and cuts Codex allowance

mkeremturhan spotted a buried ChatGPT release note: some Plus and Pro users will get GPT-6.1 Terra instead of GPT-6.1 Sol in the default Power presets. Connecting this week's moves: API price cut to $1/$5 (half of 6.1 Sol, a tenth of GPT-6 Astra), the silent default swap, and Pro Codex allowance cut from 20x to 10x Plus on Oct 30 — the argument being Terra was built to protect margins on $200 Pro accounts, not to beat Claude Opus 5.5. kimmonismus adds that Sonnet 5.5 is clearly better and 6.1 Sol is similarly priced, calling it the weirdest release.
