DeCert supervises generative reward models' rationales without reference explanations

A UConn/NEC Labs paper proposes DeCert (Decision Certificate Supervision) for evaluating and improving generative reward model rationales. It assesses justification validity and verdict consistency without reference explanations, addressing the finding that verdict-only supervision can't distinguish sound judgments from correct-verdict-but-flawed-reasoning ones — flawed rationales yield poor reward signals in RLHF. DeCert yields stronger preference supervision.
