Google Docs and Drive now natively preview, edit, and collaborate on .md files

Google Workspace added native Markdown support to Google Docs and Drive: users can preview, edit, and co-edit .md files in real time without conversion, with an .md badge and rendered previews in Drive.
Google frames the update around human-agent collaboration: Markdown is the standard format LLMs use to preserve structure (tables, headers, lists), .md usage in Drive has surged year-over-year, and Docs now acts as a shared environment where teammates and AI agents work on the same file while keeping documentation compatible with dev tools and git repos.
