Anthropic S-1: $112B Cash, $80B "Loss" Is a $72B Non-Cash Charge
robleclerc · x · 2026-10-27
After Anthropic's S-1 dropped, dotkrueger flags three things headlines will get wrong:
- Cash: $112B in cash plus $19B in short-term investments — one of the strongest balance sheets ever taken public.
- The "loss": the $80B net loss includes a $72B non-cash accounting charge from Anthropic's own rising valuation. Actual operating loss was $693M on $16.3B of revenue in H1 2026 — near breakeven, growing 14x year over year.
- The compute bet: up to $120.5B committed to SpaceXAI through 2029, roughly $3.1B a month at full delivery starting in December; compute is their biggest cost, locked in at scale.
robleclerc adds that with $112B in cash, the IPO isn't just about raising capital — it also aligns public goodwill with Ant's success.
