Open Ontologies: open-source Rust engine brings Terraform-style change management to knowledge graphs
techNmak · x · 2026-10-26
Fabio Rovai open-sourced Open Ontologies, a Rust-based, single-binary engine that treats ontologies as production infrastructure rather than static files agents can freely modify.
Key points:
- Terraform-style change management: preview an ontology change's consequences before shipping, validate constraints, roll back updates, and attach independently checkable proofs (certified via Lean 4 and Isabelle/HOL, re-checked by Vampire/E/Z3/Mace4 solvers)
- Via MCP, agents like Claude Code and Cursor can build and query ontologies, validate constraints, propose changes, inspect consequences, and roll back
- A data pipeline ingests CSV, Excel, JSON, Parquet, and SQL results, maps them to RDF, validates with SHACL, and derives extra relationships through reasoning
The README demo: feed in a spreadsheet and get an ontology with per-line evidence; change one cell and the system pinpoints the resulting error.
