HermesOBD: open-source macOS app pipes live car OBD-II data to a local Hermes agent
Teknium · x · 2026-10-26
Teknium highlighted HermesOBD, a new community open-source project built by trafalger1801 after a Hermes Agent user took on a neighbour's 2005 Mustang: a SwiftUI macOS dashboard that reads ELM327 adapters (verified with Innova 3210RS over BLE) and pipes readings to a local Hermes agent for commentary.
- Live data: RPM, speed, coolant temperature and more
- Diagnostics: reads stored and pending trouble codes, with one guarded opt-in exception for clearing codes
- Logging: every drive logged to CSV
- Agent integration: sends Hermes a summary every 30s, gets commentary on changes and can answer questions in-app
- Read-only by design: commands go through an allowlist — no tuning, no reflashing
MIT-licensed on GitHub, with a simulator for testing without hardware.
