NVIDIA Plans ~$2,000 Per GPU Per Year Software Fee for Running AI Agents

Jensen Huang said NVIDIA's software for running AI agents in its AI factories could cost around $2,000 per GPU per year, on top of the GPUs themselves — at 1 million GPUs that's $2 billion a year, rising to $10 billion at 5 million. Huang added that software licensing will become an increasingly important part of NVIDIA's business; its existing AI Enterprise subscription already costs $4,500/GPU/year. Linus Ekenstam called it the "CUDA tax going subscription": smart business, but also the best ad for open inference stacks — every paid road now creates huge incentives for a free one.
