Frustrated by sponsored rows and autoplay trailers on his TCL Google TV, the author had Claude Code build Nullofy TV: free, MIT-licensed, 173KB, no ads/accounts/analytics (github.com/Haikoitoh/nullofy-tv).
Design: no grid—just a single carousel dock (vertical list or horizontal dock), 3 themes, 9 accent colors, public-domain wallpapers from The Met, Art Institute of Chicago, Wikimedia, and NASA with credits.
Claude's workflow: one rule—"don't tell me it's better, measure it." Claude wrote the launcher, installed via ADB, and verified each step with TV screenshots.
Measured (dumpsys meminfo, 3 rounds): Google TV home 137MB vs Nullofy 26–33MB (28MB in background). Also disabled the 41MB ACR screen-recognition process and 38MB screensaver.
Details: Home→OK opens your most-watched app; auto black/white text based on wallpaper; pixel-shifted clock and gentle zoom to prevent burn-in. Google's home stays installed (97MB) as a fallback—if Nullofy crashes 3 times in 5 minutes, Home reverts to it.
Caveats: tested on one TV (should work on Android 7.0+); in-app ads untouched.
