Indie devs say AI slop and demo cloning are forcing a 'dark forest' era for game ideas

Indie developer BANGYANGYAO argues that indie game ideas have entered a 'dark forest' era. Previously, indie communities were open because big studios ignored their projects and competitors were slower to copy. But after Steam Next Fest saw demos cloned and a flood of AI slop, the old 'ship a draft and iterate' approach no longer works — indie devs now have to guard ideas until launch, a defensive posture once limited to big studios.
