Claude's newer models refuse reverse engineering tasks where older ones complied
Toiling-Donkey · reddit · 2026-10-26
A Reddit user reports that while an older Sonnet version works well for binary reverse engineering via opencode + ghidra-mcp, the newer Opus refuses outright. On a $20/month plan, the latest Sonnet also quickly refuses any reversing work while Sonnet 4.8 complies. The poster suspects it's tied to not being a vetted cybersecurity researcher and asks how others get Opus to cooperate — a sign Anthropic has tightened safety guardrails for security-related tasks in newer releases.
