Local MoE Inference Sees <10% Prefill Boost From TFLOPS Uplift, Decode Unchanged
johnowhitaker · x · 2026-10-26
Responding to @unixpickle, johnowhitaker tested the reported TFLOPS uplift: matmul benchmarks in BF16/FP16/TF32 show 50% gains with identical outputs. But he cautions against equating that with "my local model runs 50% faster" — in local MoE inference he sees under 10% prefill improvement and unchanged decode speed, since inference is memory-bandwidth bound.
