Amazon Robotics CTO: at 1M robots deployed, 99% reliability still means millions of errors

Amazon Robotics has deployed over one million robots. Speaking at Encord's Physical AI Summit (Long Horizon) in San Francisco on a panel about data flywheels for real-world robot autonomy — alongside executives from Dyna Robotics, Agility Robotics, Serve Robotics and Path Robotics — CTO Tye Brady made a striking point: at Amazon's order volume, a robot that is 99% reliable still gets millions of orders wrong. "1% of a very big number is a very big number," he noted, arguing the deployment bar isn't always about the numbers and that precision at scale is the next target.
