How to Get a "Hey Grok" Wake Word on iPhone Using Shortcuts and Vocal Shortcuts
minchoi · x · 2026-10-25
A user cracked the widely assumed impossible: "Hey Grok" voice activation on iPhone. Even Grok itself claimed Apple reserves wake words for Siri only, but he used built-in iOS features—no extra apps, no cost.
Setup steps:
- Update the Grok Bot app
- Shortcuts app → + → Add Action → search "Grok Bot" → pick "Start Voice Chat with Bot"
- Settings → Accessibility → Vocal Shortcuts → Set Up → select that shortcut → record the custom phrase "Hey Grok" (say it 3 times)
- In the shortcut's details, enable "Allow Running When Locked"
On a locked phone iOS asks for one tap first; if Face ID has already unlocked it, it's fully hands-free.
