Researcher finds disabling ACR on Samsung TVs doesn't actually stop telemetry
TheZachMueller · x · 2026-10-25
Security researcher log4j, after decompiling Samsung TV firmware, found that turning off ACR (Automatic Content Recognition) via the preferences menu should not be assumed to actually disable ACR telemetry — several checks were either incorrectly implemented or not checked at all. A full report is coming; he asked journalists to DM him for access rather than infer from partial decompilation snippets. Practical workaround from another dev: root the TV, make it as dumb as possible, and attach an Apple TV.
