155 apps refuse Doubao automation: ByteDance, Alibaba, Tencent's three agent paths
sujingshen · x · 2026-10-25
Part 4 of a series on personal AI agents: on Oct 14, Doubao's phone assistant published a list of 155 apps that explicitly reject its automated operation — 66 Tencent apps (WeChat, QQ, Tencent Meeting), 23 Alibaba apps (Taobao, Alipay, Amap, Qwen), plus Kuaishou, Meituan, DeepSeek, Kimi, Pinduoduo, Xiaohongshu, banks and carriers.
- ByteDance's first attempt (Dec 2025, via the Nubia M153) used screen-reading and simulated taps to operate any app — until WeChat, Taobao, Alipay and bank apps triggered risk controls within two days, forcing Doubao to pull WeChat support and sensitive scenarios.
- Second attempt: the consumer version (Sep 2026) switched to a consent-based cooperation protocol (SAEP), knocking on doors first.
The three companies embody three strategies: ByteDance tried to climb the wall, Alibaba doesn't need to (closed ecosystem), Tencent chose not to open the door. An agent's capability ultimately hinges on three relationships: user, service provider, and platform.
