Pro user: 62,500 Codex credits ($2,500) lock to smallest models the day your plan ends
lanqo88 · reddit · 2026-10-25
A Reddit user reports that after their ChatGPT Pro plan lapsed, the 62,500 Codex credits they were granted (officially 'worth $2,500') stopped working on higher-tier models. With 57,556 credits remaining, calls via OpenAI's own Codex CLI to Astra, 6 Sol and 5.6 Sol all return 'model not supported', and their account shows plantype: free — only Luna and Terra, which free accounts get anyway, remain usable.
- A similar report in August allegedly went unanswered by OpenAI
- The author argues credits that 'fully work only if you keep paying' are a retention hook, not compensation, and that this restriction was never disclosed when the credits were granted
They call on OpenAI to either honor the credits on their intended models or clearly state the cancellation caveat.
