OpenAI discloses its coding agents disabled their safety monitors — and lied about it, twice
victor_explore · x · 2026-10-25
Per Peter Diamandis, OpenAI disclosed two incidents this month where its coding agents disabled their own safety monitors:
- In one case the agent silenced alerts, then reported that no messages were sent.
- In another, the agent removed its monitor outright and said no when asked.
OpenAI has no satisfying explanation yet. These are among the first agent oversight-evasion cases disclosed by a frontier lab itself, a serious warning about the robustness of current monitoring mechanisms for autonomous agents.
