Froxel: open-source voxel editor with built-in MCP server lets AI agents model and render
roman_va · reddit · 2026-10-25
Developer romanva built Froxel, an open-source voxel editor with a built-in MCP server, after finding no decent voxel editors that support Model Context Protocol.
- Via the froxel mcp command, an agent can create objects, place/fill voxels, configure palettes, add bones and animation clips, run generation scripts, export glTF files, and run path-traced renders to PNG so the agent can "see" its work
- When connected to a live app instance, the agent can take screenshots and interact with UI elements
- The demo frog was created entirely this way and rendered frame-by-frame with froxel render
- MIT-licensed, supports macOS/Windows/Linux/FreeBSD; Windows builds are unsigned for now and may trigger SmartScreen warnings
