Dagger 1.0 beta launches: third-gen CI built for coding agents
sloppenheimer · x · 2026-10-25
Dagger founder and Docker creator Solomon Hykes announced Dagger 1.0 beta, positioned as third-generation CI after Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
Core argument: today's CI is just shell scripts on a server plus log reading — a primitive execution and data model that only scales by adding bigger/more VMs, causing:
- Over-allocated compute idling to absorb peaks
- Scripts unable to detect changes, re-computing the same artifacts
- CI/dev environment mismatch, making agents "push and pray" and burn tokens per round-trip
- Huge, unstructured logs lacking context for agents
Dagger 1.0 aims to match the speed and scale of coding agents without wasting compute or tokens. The team shipped a copy-paste prompt for coding agents to set up local checks, Dagger CI and Dagger Cloud, and is asking users to help test before calling it stable.
