The upside of AI-assisted research: failing faster at a higher level
mboehme_ · x · 2026-10-25
Continuing his debate with HerrDreyer on AI-assisted math research, mboehme offers the upside: AI is super-useful for prototyping, letting researchers test more ideas more quickly. It may even let them "fail faster on a higher level," building intuition for the problem space faster — which he sees as possibly the most effective use of AI in research.
His earlier downside point: insight requires failing and iterating, and automating research reduces learning opportunities.
