CERN and Mistral partner to build the first foundation model for collider physics
burny_tech · x · 2026-10-25
CERN and Mistral have signed a statement of intent establishing a long-term strategic partnership focused on foundation models for scientific discovery.
The centerpiece is a single pretrained "Large Physics Model" — the first foundation model for collider physics — to be trained on billions of simulated proton-proton collisions from CERN's Large Hadron Collider. CERN contributes expertise in fundamental physics, scientific data, and large-scale computing, while Mistral brings large-scale model training capabilities, aiming to advance AI for science and strengthen Europe's technological standing.
